Holiday in Handcuffs
Overall Rating: 5 Golden Rings
Worth watching?: ABSOLUTELY - One of my all time favorites, but note this is a made for TV movie, not a blockbuster
Chemistry: 10 / 10
Smooch Quality: Quality
Plot According to Julie: Single and lonely, MJH kidnaps Mario Lopez and forces him to pretend to be her boyfriend for her family Holiday party in the snowy mountains. As they learn more about each other, sparks fly.
Review: Is the kidnapping plot of this movie majorly problematic and, if roles were reversed, this would be a horror film? Absolutely. But, that’s what makes the plot unique! One thing this movie nails is pacing. You watch as the push and pull between all characters builds into this powder keg of tension. Many movies have tried to imitate the way Holiday in Handcuffs portrays an enemies to lovers trope, yet few succeed. MJH and Mario Lopez are also the perfect pairing to play on the nostalgia near and dear to 90’s kids. That is why this movie gets top marks for the Golden Ring Reviewer (despite the problematic plot line).
